Lucky to be me?
In the wee small hours…….
Here I am again, sitting at the unforgiving screen of my ageing mac listening to Bill Evans (a fellow iconoclast) reviewing my life, and decreasing prospects, whilst reminding myself that I have no real reason to be depressed…. and yet…..and yet…. Bill has just played ‘Lucky to be me’ and I really don’t feel that.
Life is quite good actually. I eat very well, I exercise, I’m solvent and stopping drinking three years ago was one of the most fulfilling choices I’ve ever made in my life (the electrician who turned up … for the third time…to, yet again, reset the central heating at my ‘luxury’ apartment, said to me this morning : “Jeez you look younger every time I see you”) …. in truth I feel it….. and yet … and yet …..there is a painting in the attic.
My brain seems unaffected by the ‘full’ life I have lead. I still work and ‘Creative People’ still seek me out for advice and company. My daughters adore me and previous inamorata keep in touch, sometimes with offers of more tangible support……. and yet … and yet…. there was an empty seat beside me at the concert last night.
Of course I have no one to blame for my current dissatisfactions but myself. Looking for a needle in the haystack that is this site, maybe I set the bar too high…. In fact much higher than I could measure up to. I’ve spoken to some lovely ladies here and met one who was perfect (but I was not perfect for her). So I have decided that Bill and I should call it a day and I’ll get on with my ‘quite good’ life on my own…… and yet…. and yet…..
almost on cue, the amazing Bill Evans, from beyond the grave, has just started playing:
