In His Own Words

About him

I crashed out of school at the age of 15 leaving with few qualifications to my name. But I learned to do equations without formulas before I finally got shown the school gates.

I went through a period of delinquency. Read the Communist Manifesto. Spent a week at the London Stock Exchange. Drew a thousand maps; made a thousand plans. Wrote myself a cheque at 17 years old for Ł200 million. Why not? Being rich is a mindset we are told (unless you're poor of course). Finally I landed a place (after five years of study) at the Royal College of Art. Received national television acclaim. Set up a tech company in London in the 90s.

Then in my late twenties I became listless. Life is short. London was crowded and rainy. And while money makes the world go round it can't buy back youth or time. So I packed up everything to initially travel for a year.

That year over time became the best part of twenty years. I spent 17 years over two periods living in Spain (Granada, Madrid and Sevilla) as well as Ireland, Turkey and briefly in China. In early 2024 I arrived back in London. A dream of travelling had turned into an odyssey. I ran a marathon in 3hrs 21mins and wrote a political thesis on conservatism after Edmund Burke.

On the subject of Edmund Burke and of course his home Ireland, I too am fiercely proud of my Irish and Ulster roots. I have notable Irish family ancestry one of whom carved his way into Irish history. The lights are on and there's definitely someone at home (somewhere).

Many want to travel the world. I've done it. It was and still is an extraordinary journey. Today I see myself on a long voyage. A ship passing through; docked at the quayside of the Thames. I'm back in London to pick up supplies, ale, food, more bad habits and foul language; and of course a woman for my next and final long journey on the high seas south to somewhere warm! A passage of stories and maybe even a little bit of slap and tickle below deck...

Finally, I do smile and have big, deep blue eyes for the right woman. x

About his ideal match

What about the woman who might like to accompany me on that next journey and odyssey?

She must be beautiful with seductive eyes and have teeth that are her own. I expect my other half to have some neanderthal ancestry yet be no more intelligent or stupid than me. She should be able count up to ten; be clean and free of fleas. Able to use a club and stone knife in the kitchen. And after a day's hunting, pushing and shoving in Asda make the cave habitable and warm with a real fire, I preparing a nice glass of fermented grapes.

If you think our lives would be greatly enhanced by us being together for all eternity please send a picture of your mother if you contact me. Here I can see how you'll be in 30 years.

I don't care too much about educated conversation or dinner parties; come as you are. An interest in wine and food, and a fascination with the milky way in the night sky will do.

An odyssey can be written in a stone house in the mountains or surrounded by nature with a family over many decades. One does not need to travel to the ends of the Earth to find happiness.

Footnotes:

1. I like walking and sometimes cycling. I've done the Camino de Santiago twice. First time I walked 450 miles along this route in the north of Spain. Second time in 2022 I walked 300 miles along the more mountainous part of this route. In 2023 I did 700 miles on a bicycle in France ending at the monastery in Moissac.

2. I'm confident about myself in the world, the world itself and do not share the permission of our current age. If you glue yourself to roads at weekends or throw tomatoes at fine art... well, we might not get on I'm sorry to say.

3. Finally, I've never met a woman who's easy-going or low maintenance. High performance yes! Low maintenance no. I'm sure there have been many women through history who thought they were baggage free, good company and fun to be with just like Eva Braun! 'Photographer Seeks Witty Man With A Passion For Travel'. It's funny how we see ourselves as it rarely fits the reality...
