About her
I'm a writer (a poet) and a professor; my art, my students, social justice, and the environment are all very important to me. I love to travel, internationally as well as in the US. I was (many years ago!) in the Peace Corps in Botswana, and southern Africa is one of my favorite places to travel. I've also loved Iceland, the Galapagos, Belize, Machu Picchu, Puerto Rico, Prague--there are so many beautiful places in the world. I wish I could see all of them! I would enjoy having a partner to travel with, but I am happy traveling alone or with my (only) sister.
I have a rescue dog, Ruby, and I love animals, domestic and wild. Some of my favorite "regular day" activities include reading, writing, yoga, walking--especially in the woods. I enjoy taking photos, especially of nature, but I am just an amateur there. As a poet, I love to hear other writers read, but I enjoy a wide variety of artistic and cultural events--museums, theater, and many types of music, singer-songwriter to classical. While I don't really play now, I was a music major (piano and viola) the first two years of college before I switched to English. I have loved creative writing since high school.
I grew up in Colorado, but I've lived in Georgia for 23 years. I never had kids, but I enjoyed seeing my niece and nephew grow up. I am mostly vegetarian, and I prepare simple meals. I do not enjoy cooking but respect those who do!
About her ideal match
I would especially appreciate meeting someone who is kind, who values intelligence, and who cares about the world and all the people (and animals, and trees) in it--not just some. I have to say that politically I am quite liberal, and I veer between agnostic and atheist; my ideal match would be accepting of this, and of other cultures and beliefs. I believe having something you are passionate about is important, but yours doesn't necessarily need to be mine; I believe compassion is the most important trait in any human being. I'd like to meet someone who also enjoys culture and nature, but who isn't a hunter!
