About him
I am a lover of music ranging from early Rock & Roll to Chopin. I never tire of his nocturnes. I'm quite liberal, but I’m also no party loyalist and I try to listen to both my reason and emotions. I've been retired since June 2016 after decades of work as an outpatient psychotherapist. It was a rewarding journey in terms of learning the craft & helping people help themselves. I did meet a few talented and soulful therapists both as a colleague and as a client, but they were the rare exception. Many, many reasons for this, but unfortunately so-called therapy has become an industrialized commodity for over three decades with MBA's and/or superficial therapy frameworks having crowded out the true artists. I understand the same has happened in teaching, etc. so this is all a reflection of our societal values. Nonetheless, the history of literature and the arts such as cinema, etc. gives me a confident hope NOT that things will change for the better at least in the U.S.A., but that bodhisattvas come in many forms. I'm not a practicing Buddhist, nor have I meditated or practiced so-called mindfulness, but Buddhism is rich in its understanding of life, death and many things in-between-but NOT ALL of life's challenges and rewards. There is a psychiatrist on YT who is a well known author in certain circles, a Dr. Mark Epstein who speaks honestly about the LIMITS of spiritual practice but also its rewards, how therapy can be very helpful depending on the therapeutic framework, experience and training of the therapist, your own goals and current psychological makeup. I would add good therapy requires money or disposable income which more and more is not available to those who need it most.
Lastly, it appears to me as a now 75 y/o that having healthy emotionally "good enough" parents, being born into a society/culture that cultivates honest democratic values at all levels of existence is also very important in the human journey. END OF SERMON! (:-)
