In Her Own Words

About her

I write poetry to make sense of the metaphysical world, I draw my thoughts and hopes and wishes on to paper sometimes, and sometimes I make documentary films. I am trying to explore alternative ways of living meaningfully, and living lightly on the planet and close to the nature which is where my heart lies - I believe going back to the land and to nature is an answer to many things in my journey so far. I hope to do my bit to help create a fair, just, happy world. I deeply value love and respect for all beings, I value my sense of freedom and independence, and strongly believe in the beauty and purity of a beautiful partnership and meaningful togetherness. I love poetry and happy to share something I relate to very closely.

Personal
BY TONY HOAGLAND
Don't take it personal, they said;
but I did, I took it all quite personal--

the breeze and the river and the color of the fields;
the price of grapefruit and stamps,

the wet hair of women in the rain--
And I cursed what hurt me

and I praised what gave me joy,
the most simple-minded of possible responses.

The government reminded me of my father,
with its deafness and its laws,

and the weather reminded me of my mom,
with her tropical squalls.

Enjoy it while you can, they said of Happiness
Think first, they said of Talk

Get over it, they said
at the School of Broken Hearts

but I couldn't and I didn't and I don't
believe in the clean break;

I believe in the compound fracture
served with a sauce of dirty regret,

I believe in saying it all
and taking it all back

and saying it again for good measure
while the air fills up with I'm-Sorries

like wheeling birds
and the trees look seasick in the wind.

Oh life! Can you blame me
for making a scene?

You were that yellow caboose, the moon
disappearing over a ridge of cloud.

I was the dog, chained in some fool's backyard;
barking and barking:

trying to convince everything else
to take it personal too.

About her ideal match

Somebody who understands that we are too small in the larger scheme of things, and so tries to make the most of every moment in his life and is willing to explore the beauty of togetherness, companionship, love, care and affection with me.

If you'd relate to this poem, maybe we will connect.
This is not Love, perhaps,
Love that lays down its life,
that many waters cannot quench,
nor the floods drown,
But something written in lighter ink,
said in a lower tone, something, perhaps, especially our own.

A need, at times, to be together and talk,
And then the finding we can walk
More firmly through dark narrow places,
And meet more easily nightmare faces;
A need to reach out, sometimes, hand to hand,
And then find Earth less like an alien land;
A need for alliance to defeat
The whisperers at the corner of the street.

A need for inns on roads, islands in seas,
Halts for discoveries to be shared,
Maps checked, notes compared;
A need, at times, of each for each,
Direct as the need of throat and tongue for speech.
